In addition to a growing economy and great schools, and being hailed as a safe place to live, Norwalk places a big focus on healthy lifestyle and offers residents an array of parks, trails, golf courses and recreational activities to help them achieve their healthy best selves. A growing list of restaurants and other products and services round out the amenities—Norwalk has it all!

Norwalk connects to the Great Western Trail that runs from Des Moines to Martensdale, and the city also maintains a number of other shorter on and off-road bike trails for residents to enjoy. Activity & Entertainment

Love the outdoors? Norwalk manages 279 acres (about the total floor space of the Pentagon) of parkland with amenities for all sorts of activities including an aquatic center, trails, a disc golf course, playgrounds, and much more. Residents in Norwalk value the ‘small town nice’ of the area and love how people are welcoming to newcomers and supportive of their local businesses as well as their local schools, police, and fire department.

In 1852, a man named Samuel Snyder founded a small settlement he called Pyra near the North River. In time, the town grew, and the name was changed to Norwalk, and in 1900 the town was first incorporated with a land size of about one square mile. As the town grew, amenities such as law enforcement and a post office were added, and later a newspaper, and eventually, the railroad. Over the next century and a half, various tracts were annexed to accommodate the growing population, and today, Norwalk has an area of over 11 square miles.
